After reading Ephesians...

Once you understand who you are in Christ and how believers are called to live, Psalms teaches you how to bring your whole heart before God.

The Psalms contain songs, prayers, praise, grief, repentance, fear, hope, and trust. They show that faith does not require pretending. God welcomes His people to come honestly, reverently, and confidently into His presence.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

📚 A Simple Reading Plan

Psalms contains 150 chapters, so this part of the journey is meant to be slower and more flexible.

Begin by reading one psalm each day. You do not need to finish the whole book before moving forward. Let Psalms become a lifelong companion you return to again and again.

A helpful place to begin is:

  • Psalm 1 — Two paths and the blessed life.
  • Psalm 23 — The Lord as our Shepherd.
  • Psalm 27 — Confidence when afraid.
  • Psalm 34 — God’s goodness and nearness.
  • Psalm 46 — God is our refuge.
  • Psalm 51 — Repentance and restoration.
  • Psalm 91 — Trust in God’s protection.
  • Psalm 103 — Remembering God’s benefits.
  • Psalm 119 — Loving and obeying God’s Word.
  • Psalm 139 — Fully known and deeply loved.

As you read, ask yourself:

  1. What does this psalm reveal about God?
  2. What emotion or circumstance is the writer bringing to Him?
  3. How can I turn these words into my own prayer today?

Some psalms are joyful. Others are painful. Read them honestly and allow them to teach you that no part of your life is outside God’s care.

🙏 Before You Read

Heavenly Father,

Teach me to seek You with an honest heart. As I read the Psalms, help me praise You in joy, trust You in fear, call upon You in sorrow, and remember Your faithfulness in every season. Let these words shape my prayers and draw me closer to You.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
