Colossians 2:6-15, verse 8 - Christ Completes Us

Today’s study has such a clear movement: rooted → discerning → complete → alive → forgiven → victorious.

Rooted in Christ • Complete in Christ • Set Free in Christ

Paul’s warning in Colossians 2:8 is serious: “See to it that there is no one who takes you captive…” Deception does not always arrive looking obviously false. It can sound intelligent, spiritual, traditional, reasonable—even wise. So Paul gives believers a simple but powerful standard by which everything else is measured: Is it in accordance with Christ?

But this passage is much more than a warning about deception. Paul surrounds that warning with the reason we do not need to be carried away by anything else. We have received Christ Jesus as Lord and are to remain rooted and built up in Him (Colossians 2:6–7). In Christ, the fullness of Deity dwells bodily, and we have been made complete in Him (Colossians 2:9–10).

Then Paul takes us straight to the cross. Though we were dead in our sins, God made us alive with Christ and forgave us (Colossians 2:13). The record of debt standing against us was canceled and nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14). And at that same cross, Christ disarmed the rulers and authorities and triumphed over them (Colossians 2:15).

So the answer to deception is not simply “learn to recognize every lie.” It is to become so deeply rooted in the truth of Christ that the counterfeit has nowhere to take hold.

We don't need another truth to complete us.
We don't need another power to free us.
We don't need another Savior to rescue us.

If we are complete in Christ, we don't need what promises to complete us apart from Christ. ❤️✝️🕊️
