🏺 The Potter and the Clay — In the Hands of God

Our Daily Bread | October 14, 2026

Scripture: Jeremiah 18:1–10
⚓ Anchor Verse: Jeremiah 18:6

What happens when the clay becomes spoiled in the potter's hands? Does he discard it, or does he reshape it into something new?

In Jeremiah 18:1–10, God sends the prophet Jeremiah to a potter's house to witness an ordinary task carrying an extraordinary message. As the potter reshapes a marred vessel, God reveals His sovereign authority over Israel and the nations—and His willingness to show mercy when people turn from their evil ways.

But this passage contains both a promise and a warning. Repentance can change the outcome of announced judgment, just as disobedience can change the outcome of announced blessing. These truths help us understand the conditional nature of certain biblical prophecies and remind us that God's warnings are invitations to respond, not merely announcements of destruction.

Through nine study cards, we'll explore the Potter's authority, the significance of the spoiled vessel, God's mercy and justice, and the importance of remaining humble and responsive to His Word.

The Potter is sovereign, but the clay is called to respond. May this study encourage us to trust His wisdom, receive His correction, and turn toward Him with willing hearts.
