Friday of the Twenty-Eighth Week in Ordinary Time | Lectionary 471
Chosen, Sealed & Known by God ❤️
Do you ever wonder whether God sees you in the middle of life's uncertainties, struggles, and fears? Today's readings offer a beautiful reassurance: You are not forgotten. You are known, valued, and loved by God.
In Ephesians 1:11–14, Paul reminds us that believers are chosen in Christ and sealed with the promised Holy Spirit—a guarantee of the inheritance awaiting God's children. Our identity is not found in the approval of the world, but in belonging to Him.
Psalm 33:1–2, 4–5, 12–13 celebrates the faithfulness of the Lord, whose eyes look upon all humanity. And in Luke 12:1–7, Jesus warns against hypocrisy, calls His disciples to fear God rather than people, and offers one of Scripture's most tender reminders:
“Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.” — Luke 12:7
The God who sees every sparrow also knows every hair on your head. Nothing escapes His notice, and no life is insignificant to Him.
Through today's companion studies, we'll explore what it means to be chosen in Christ, sealed by the Holy Spirit, called to sincere faith, and freed from fear by the knowledge of God's loving care.
We'll also remember Saint Hedwig of Andechs, Saint Gerard Majella, Saint Longinus the Centurion, and Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, reflecting on their lives and Christian traditions.
🙏 Today's Rosary: The Sorrowful Mysteries, traditionally prayed on Fridays, invite us to meditate on Christ's suffering, sacrifice, and immeasurable love.
Today's invitation: Live honestly before God, courageously before the world, and confidently in His care.
You are seen. You are known. You are loved.
The Anonymous Disciple
***One important note for our historical accuracy, ❤️: Scripture never names the centurion at the cross or identifies him as the soldier who pierced Jesus' side. Those connections, along with Longinus's conversion and martyrdom, come from Christian tradition.
